MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer Donald Cerrone’s Monday interview with TapouT Radio elicited more than traditional pre-fight trash talk. It also ignited a verbal backlash from WEC brass. During the interview Cerrone is quoted as saying (as well as a few other slurs we'll exclude from this piece): "I'm just [expletive] fired up, and all I want to do is go out there and kill him. I want to come in that first round and just rip his face off. I don't want to come in and sit back and let him dictate it. I hope my emotions drive me. I fight better on emotion. ... I hope my emotions takes over and I just kill this dude. I hope this is the first death in MMA." WEC Vice Rresident Peter Dropick made it clear that that kind of behavior would not be tolerated. Cerrone later hit his twitter account to apologize to Jamie Varner, citing excitement and anticipation for his harsh words. It’s not the first time similar comments have been made, and Cerrone has yet to face any official punishment, but make no mistake, the WEC will be tuned into Cerrone’s words quite closely from this point on. |
