25 Fights To Turn A Casual Into A Hardcore
Posted on Mar 21, 2011
Brock Lesnar Vs. Frank Mir II: Care to discuss revenge? Lesnar and Mir met for the second time at UFC 100. What unfolded should damn near be illegal. With the exception of a nice knee from Mir, it was all Lesnar, who pinned Mir against the fence in side control. The end was inevitable as Lesnar began landing viciously powerful shots to Mir, who soon found himself defenseless. All that remained was an unconscious, swollen, bloody Mir… and a few choice words from the champion Brock Lesnar.
Eddie Alvarez Vs. Roger Huerta: There’s no denying the threat Roger Huerta brings into a cage; he’s a wily veteran with big power in both hands and some impressive kicks to boot. Someone forgot to tell Eddie Alvarez before the two met at Bellator FC 33. For two full rounds Alvarez easily outboxed Huerta and utilized brutal leg kicks to take the legs right out from under the former UFC standout. Alvarez exited virtually unscathed, while Huerta quit on his seat. It was the kind of beating that leaves fans dying to see more tactical brilliance. Forrest Griffin Vs. Stephen Bonnar: What kind of a list would this be without including one of the most important fights of all time. For three rounds these two spilled blood, winged punches and showed fantastic heart, endurance and recovery abilities. If you want a guaranteed barn burner, this is always a safe bet to fall back on. Mirko Filipovic Vs. Fedor Emelianenko: At the time these two met, there were no other men in the heavyweight division as feared. It was believed to be the clear number one heavy clashing with the clear number two. Fedor’s striking and gameplan ended up playing the deciding factor, as he pressured Crocop with punches, never giving the Croation the chance to plant and launch the feared left high kick. A technical war ensued, and while we didn’t see the mind boggling finish many expected, we did see a stellar physical chess match. Chuck Liddell Vs. Tito Ortiz I: There was a strange energy in the air when these two first met. That grin Chuck wore on his way to the cage still scares me; that’s a man who knew exactly how that fight was going to unfold. Tito was game to stand and bang, but ultimately it would be his downfall. A few tense moments lead to the fights finale, an early second round knockout victory for Chuck. The arrogant Ortiz lie against the fence, a bloody crumbled shell. Mauricio Rua Vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira: This is hands down one of the best fights in the history of the sport. These two stood and banged for an entire fight. Both men were hurt, both men were dropped, and both men showed some excellent striking and tremendous heart. If you choose to search for any fight on this list, let this be the one. Chris Lytle Vs. Paul Taylor: What do you get when you throw two high output precise strikers in the cage together? All out war. That’s exactly what these gentlemen gave us viewers: jaw dropping punches, scream inducing high kicks, hell…they gave us a bit of everything. At one point I believe someone may have thrown the kitchen sink in the cage and caught Lytle square on the chin, not that it mattered. For an exciting, all out slugfest, watch Lytle versus Taylor, guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
