MMANEWS.COM Exlusive: One-On-One With Jaime Jara
Posted on Apr 6, 2011
MMANews.com: Now, you seem like the kind of guy who really enjoys fighting often. Let’s say the UFC were to approach you about fighting for their promotion; you obviously wouldn’t be able to fight nearly as often, given how huge their roster of fighters is. Would you take the chance to fight for MMA’s biggest promotion and fight far fewer times in a year, or do you prefer to fight for smaller shows, seeing as how you can compete so much more often?
JJ: That all depends on the offer. MMANews.com: At this point, what kind of career goals do you have? JJ: I want to fight as much as I can. I just love to fight. I would like to fight on some of the bigger cards though too. MMANews.com: What would you consider your greatest achievement in this sport? JJ: The 4 titles [I’ve won] in 4 different weight classes. MMANews.com: Let’s talk about your tattoos briefly. You may have the most ink in the business; some pieces could be considered quite intimidating. Can you give me a little history behind all the artwork; are tattoo’s something you just enjoy getting, and does each piece hold significant meaning to you? JJ: Yes all my tattoos have meanings. Most of them are Asian, and Hindu tattoos; a lot of spiritual stuff. MMANews.com: Do you think all that ink ever intimidates your opponents (I know fighters don’t like to admit to intimidation, but it’s definitely a real factor in the fight game, especially if an opponent enters the cage with some predetermined fear in his belly)? JJ: I think I intimidate people in general... why do you think they call me El Cucui [laughs]? But a scared fighter is a dangerous fighter... so that may not always work in my favor. MMANews.com: You recently engaged in an absolute war with Waachiim Spiritwolf at Bellator 35. Give me your thoughts on how the fight unfolded, and what did you think when they announced Spiritwolf the winner via split decision? JJ: I was pissed! But it was a great fight [that] could have went either way... we both fought hard that night. Next time I’m gonna push to finish. Never leave it to the judges... right?
