Clay Guida Wants Lightweight Title Belt, Then 145lb. Drop Possible
Posted on Jun 9, 2011
In fourteen UFC appearances, Clay Guida holds a 9-5 record and now finds himself on a four fight winning streak following a win last weekend at The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale over Anthony Pettis.
Pettis had been pegged as a number one contender to the UFC's Lightweight title as he was the last WEC Lightweight Champion but a draw between current UFC Champ Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard forced an immediate rematch that, in turn, would be delayed due to both fighters getting injured in training. Guida now finds himself primed for a lightweight title shot once the current situation is played out and talked about his desire to win the strap and then possibly move to the new UFC Featherweight division earlier this week: "After I get my lightweight title belt and hold that for awhile, then I’ll do 145, maybe. But I want my belt first. I didn’t cut one pound [for the Pettis fight]. I’m a midget. I’m very undersized for lightweight. It’s one of those… I have fun. Like I said, I’ve been here, we’ve made our stake at lightweight. I’ve paid my dues. I want my belt first then we’ll move on from there." Props: ProMMANow |
