After recently being reported that UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar had been cleared to return back to training and possibly make a return in the octagon arena as early as October, rumors started spreading – and were subsequently confirmed – that the much anticipated second title fight rematch between Edgar and his arch-nemesis Gray Maynard, will finally take place in UFC 136, on Oct. 8 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Maynard had until recently not been medically cleared to return back to training, but his team and management were hopeful that the Lightweight steamroller would soon be back on track and ready for another crack at the title. As the two fighters have already met twice (the last bout ending in a draw after a seesaw thriller of a match) this will most likely be the decisive battle in which the score is settled. In the possibility that this battle again ends in a draw, it is unlikely that there will be yet another Edgar/Maynard rematch as there are a great many Lightweight contenders already queuing up for their legitimate shot at the title.

UFC 136 will also mark the return of Middleweight wrestling sensation Chael Sonnen taking on the “All American” Brian Stann in what could very well be a no. 1 contender elimination bout, Featherweight champion Jose Aldo will defend his title against a renewed and title-hungry Kenny Florian while Melvin Guillard will be butting heads with Joe Lauzon in a Lightweight showdown.
