MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer In what comes as a surprise to many, the UFC will be implementing the use of a “sudden death” round, if necessary, during their inaugural flyweight tournament, which gets underway at UFC on FX 2 March 3rd. The extra round will of course come into play only in the scenario that one of the two tournament bouts ends in a three round draw. Four fighters are set to compete in the first round of the mini-tournament which will decide who will take home the flyweight title. Joseph Benavidez (15-2) is tapped to face Yasuhiro Urushitani (19-4-6), while the second bout will feature the unbelievably fast Demetrious Johnson (14-2) colliding with the man many feel is the number one flyweight on the planet, Ian McCall (11-2). Johnson himself spoke of the decision while chatting with Tapout Radio, stating, “I don’t know if anybody has said anything about it, and this is the first time I’m mentioning it, is that we (McCall and himself) had to sign for a ‘sudden death’ bout. If it goes to three rounds, and the judges can’t decide who the winner is, then we’ll do a fourth round.” Leave your feedback on this article by posting a comment directly below! You can also chat about the card in the MMANEWS.COM Forums and/or the MMANEWS.COM Facebook. If that wasn't enough, MMANEWS.COM is now on Twitter as well @mmanewsdotcom. |
