Jacare Thrashes Late Replacement Bristol Marunde
I actually feel a bit bad for Marunde. Not only did he answer the call to fight Souza on extremely short notice, but he also ran into a man hell bent on erasing the memory of his loss to Luke Rockhold. Ronaldo looked unstoppable Saturday night, mixing up strikes, dominating with strong wrestling and implementing an absolutely stifling submission offense. The truth is, Bristol never looked competitive in the cage. Jacare stayed three steps ahead of his foe from the jump, and the frustration was apparent on Marunde’s face. That frustration however completely wilted as Jacare ceased to toy with his foe, finally applying an arm-triangle choke to bring the one-sided affair to a close. Where Jacare goes from here remains to be seen, but I’m sure he’ll be pulling for a rematch with the man who took his belt in September. All in all, Strikeforce really delivered this weekend. Misaki looked amazing; Scott Smith looked like a tired veteran ready to step away from competition, and most importantly, Ronda Rousey proved there’s still a whole hell of a lot of interest in women’s MMA. If you’re not eager to see that gorgeous woman rip more limbs from their sockets…well, I just don’t know what’s wrong with you!
