M-1 Challenge 31 “Monson vs Oleinik” got underway this weekend, and two of the events most recognizable combatants picked up much needed wins in the process.

Jeff Monson (44-13), who dropped a unanimous decision (and suffered a broken leg) to Fedor Emelianenko in November (at M-1 Global “Fedor vs. Monson”), worked his way to a split decision victory over Alexey Oleinik (33-9). “The Snowman” grounded Oleinik and spent the majority of the fight working from the top en route to a split decision victory.

In other memorable action, Aleksander Emelianenko (19-5) picked up his second victory inside of three months as he engaged Tadas Rimkevicius (19-7) in a thrilling slugfest. After being floored in the first round, Emelianenko rebounded to put his Lithuanian foe away with strikes midway through the second frame.
