According to Valentijn Overeem (30-27), younger brother and top UFC heavyweight contender Alistair hasn’t informed him of undergoing any form of testosterone replacement therapy, and he isn’t aware of Alistair taking anything that would lead to a 14-to-1 testosterone:-to-epitestosterone level register.

"Because I know him so well that I think I should be aware of something like that,"Overeem told MMAjunkie.com. “If that was the case, I think I would know. I would be surprised."

Anyone looking to point fingers at the elder Overeem for aligning a potential excuse for Alistair can put the conspiracies (I’ve spotted a few ludicrous ideas floating about MMA forums) to bed. The man shoots straight, plain and simple. If Alistair is hoping to suggest prescribed TRT usage led to the failed drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, his brother is taking a neutral stance and remaining fairly mum on the specifics.

"There are different reasons why someone could have high testosterone. Taking steroids is one of them. Some people have natural testosterone at a high level anyway. I'm not saying my brother is one of those people, but there's more possibilities. If the [athletic commission] tests the sample again, just to make sure there were no mistakes, I think that would be a good start."

The well-traveled Valentijn has competed professionally for sixteen years, picking up some notable wins along the way, including submission victories over the likes of Renato Sobral, Randy Couture and Ray Sefo. He last competed at “Okatgon”, where he was submitted by Michal Kita in the first round.
