Are the chances that Sonnen can successfully duplicate that feat likely? To be honest, I’m not completely sure. The injury, the chemical modifications… it all leaves a grand question mark looming over this bout. That said, I believe Chael can shock the world in at UFC 148. It won’t be an easy accomplishment. Make no mistake: Anderson is itching to erase that performance just as much as Chael is working hard to be able to duplicate it. I believe it all comes down to who performs without flaw. That’s something we’ve seen from the champion on numerous occasions in the past. That’s not something Chael is particularly known for.

Depending upon how the lines open, this could be a fantastic fight to make a small wager on. Sonnen is in this fight, 100 percent, and no logical man will argue that. Whether you love the man, or completely despise him (you shouldn’t, he’s actually a really great guy with a brilliant mind for self-promotion), there’s no denying that he’s got a very, very good chance of winning this fight. When I say very, I mean 50 percent, which may not seem too favorable, but given the fact that Anderson’s previous opponents were far inferior, and likely never posed more than a 25 percent chance of success, I’d call a 50/50 shot extremely good odds.

We’ll find out just how special Chael really is in roughly three months. Keep your fingers crossed for an all-out war, as these two should make for true fireworks inside the cage. Anything less would be quite stunning.
