We knew it was inevitable, we just weren’t privy to an exact date, until yesterday, when Dana White officially confirmed that Benson Henderson (16-2) will make his first attempt at defending his lightweight championship against Frankie Edgar (14-2-1), the man he wrangled the strap from at UFC 144.

Henderson and Edgar will officially rematch in the main event of UFC 150 on August 11th. While the card is a long way from completion, there are a few other extremely compelling clashes already booked for the monumental bill, including a middleweight meeting between former top contender Jake Shields and Ed Herman, who’s found quite the second career wind having pieced together three stoppage victories since returning from a two year injury hiatus.

Luiz Cane will also make his middleweight debut when he toes the line with former top middleweight contender Yushin Okami and Dennis Hallman will fight Thiago Tavares in an interesting stylistic matchup between two dangerous lightweights.

Henderson and Edgar’s first bout was a fast-paced display of elegant violence that remained competitive from the opening bell to the final, and while many fans have grown weary of constant rematches featuring Frankie Edgar, the former champion offered forth a performance worthy of such treatment. While swept on the scorecards, it’s impossible to deny the fact that Edgar was never once out of the first fight and the competition was about as close as one could imagine.

Time and again “The Answer” has proven naysayers wrong, and he’ll be afforded the chance to shock spectators once more this August.
