Posted on Jun 26, 2012
Springfield, Missouri (USA): Rising MMA promotion ShoFIGHT will make its highly-anticipated Pay-Per-View debut on Sunday, July 1st at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT, with replays throughout the month. The cost for the PPV is $19.95, and features commentary from top MMA journalist John Morgan, the always-colorful Beau Taylor, and former UFC fighter
Jason Reinhardt.
ShoFIGHT 20 is being distributed by MultiVision Media, Inc. and will be available in the United States in over 80 million households via IN DEMAND, Avail-TVN, DIRECTV, and DISH Network. The Executive Producer of ShoFight 20 is Brian Ricco. The broadcasted fight card includes a virtual “who’s who” of the fight world. Here is the lineup: Main Event for the ShoFIGHT Welterweight Championship 170 lbs. – Karo “The Heat” Parisyan vs. John “Guns” Gunderson Co-Main Event for the ShoFIGHT Middleweight Championship 190 lbs. – Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove vs. Derek Brunson 165 lbs. – Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm vs. Marcus “Maximus” Aurelio 265 lbs. – Matt Kovacs vs. Mike Wessel 160 lbs. – Jonatas Noveas vs. Drew Fickett 155 lbs. – Chris “Gritz” Gruetzemacher vs. Roli Delgado The main event features Karo “The Heat” Parisyan (20-8-0-1) in a welterweight title fight with fellow UFC vet John “Guns” Gunderson (33-13-2). Parisyan has been fighting professionally since 1999, and has faced many top welterweights during his time in MMA, including Sean Sherk, Antonio McKee, Georges St-Pierre, Shonie Carter, Nick Diaz, Chris Lytle, Matt Serra, Nick Thompson, Diego Sanchez, Ryo Chonan, Thiago Alves, Dong Hyun Kim, and Dennis Hallman. Few in the fight game can boast such a resume. At one point, he was right on the cusp of a UFC title shot, but after some tough losses, he is looking to right the ship and get back to the top of the mountain. Fighting in the main event of ShoFIGHT 20 provides “The Heat” with the opportunity to do just that. With nearly fifty professional fights on his tally, John Gunderson is the consummate professional. A ten-year vet of the sport, he has fought all over the world. Now, in his first fight at 170 pounds, he takes on the always-dangerous Parisyan with gold on the line. It’s an opportunity for Gunderson to show that he is a threat no matter where he fights. Also showcased is The Ultimate Fighter Season 3 winner Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove (14-10) as he battles undefeated Strikeforce fighter Derek Brunson (9-0). Grove grew up in Hawaii, and is the prototypical Island boy: a scrapper who is afraid of no man. The 6’6” middleweight made his pro debut in 2003, and soared to heights few reach in the fight game when he won the 3rd season of the UFC’s Ultimate Fighter competition. Over the next few years, Grove became a mainstay in the UFC, gathering victories over Ed Herman, Alan Belcher, the late Evan Tanner, Jason Day, Jake Rosholt, and Goran Reljic during his time with the promotion. However, he also suffered several setbacks, and was released in 2011 after two straight losses. Since that time, he has downed both Joe Riggs and Ikuhisa Minowa, but then lost to fellow UFC vet Jay Silva in February. Now, he’ll look to get back in the win column with ShoFIGHT gold on the line. A three-time Division II All-American collegiate wrestler, Derek Brunson is on the fast track to fame in mixed martial arts. A star with the Strikeforce organization, he has an undefeated record with seven finishes. He’ll look to add a vet like Grove to his list of victims. Other stars on the card include Strikeforce veteran Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm as he locks horns with UFC/PRIDE vet Marcus Aurelio. Two big show fighters in Matt Kovacs and Mike Wessel lock horns, as well as newcomer Jonatas Noveas going toe-to-toe with longtime star Drew Fickett. And rising star Chris “Gritz” Gruetzemacher tangles with UFC vet Roli Delgado. Since its inception in 2009, ShoFIGHT has rapidly established itself as one of America’s top amateur fight promotions, quickly garnering a reputation for putting on exciting events that electrify Midwest fight audiences. With the primary goal of growing the sport of mixed martial arts in the central U.S., promoter JT Tilley has spent the past four years developing a network of top amateur talent from across the country. The organization has consistently maintained eleven active weight classes, helping develop some of the top pro prospects in the Midwest.
