UFC 149: Faber Vs. Barao Predictions And Analysis
Posted on Jul 20, 2012
Brian Ebersole vs. James Head: I think James Head has an incredibly high ceiling. I think fighting more frequently, avoiding injuries and competing among the best are going to make this guy twice the killer he is now. Unfortunately, he’ll be meeting Brian Ebersole at UFC 149, and the experience difference is not only monumental, it’s going to be the deciding factor in this fight.
Head can unleash fury with his extremities, and his submission game isn’t exactly embarrassing. That said, I think Ebersole is technically light years beyond James. Brian has been in countless wars, and he’s learned when to push the pace, when to regain his wits, and where to take the fight in order to win it. He’s savvy in every sense of the word, and while James Head is a damn large welterweight, Ebersole’s refined technique should lead him to victory here. After stunning James, Brian snags a rear naked choke in the latter portions of the second round. Chris Clements vs. Matt Riddle: Well, riddle me this: which Matt Riddle shows up, the flailing entertainer or the disciplined wrestler? That’s what this fight hinges on, as Matt’s got the tools to shut down Clements’ offense, there’s just no guarantee he’ll use them. Clements is known for banging. He’s a powerful guy who doesn’t mind lingering in the pocket to land the find finishing bomb. But, he’s also susceptible to being controlled. While he hasn’t shown any massively glaring weaknesses in his attack, he could very well fall victim to positional control from a guy like Riddle. Riddle in contrast, doesn’t pack near the power Clements does. However his clinch is aggressive and extremely effective, again, when he uses it. Still a sloppy striker, Matt would be ill advised to try and turn this one into a kickboxing match. He needs to put Clements against the fence and methodically batter. Can he do so without being lured into a pugilistic affair? I just don’t know. I think Riddle looks good early, and implements a well-conceived plan of attack. Somewhere, likely midway through the fight however, Clements tags him, and the inner beast of Riddle emerges. From there, the brawler will be on full display, until Clements catches him with a fight ender before the final bell sounds. Leave your feedback on this article by posting a comment directly below!
