Sherman Pendergarst only competed within the octagon’s confines a single time. While he was felled by Antoni Hardonk, he showed moxy in defeat. Future years were not kind to Sherman’s fighting career, as a winning record soon turned south. All the same, Pendergarst was a resilient man who – while battling rectal and colon cancer for two years – continued to compete.

On Friday morning Sherman lost his biggest fight: he passed away at the age of 45.

During a seven year career Pendergarst battled many talented foes including Shane Carwin, Joey Beltran, Carmelo Marrero and Justin Eilers, who also lost his life in 2008.

Pendergarst’s professional record will forever stand at 11-18.

Our condolences go out to Sherman’s family, friends and trainers.
