Following an uninspired performance against Tim Boetsch at UFC 149, “fans” took to the web to chastise the powerful Cuban. Among chief complaints – aside from the obvious passivity showcased – was the idea that “Lightning” was simply too small to compete at 185 pounds.

Lombard however, doesn’t feel that's an adequate assessment. The UFC first-timer took to his personal twitter page to confront naysayers, stating, “I feel strong at 185 (pounds). Just because I had a bad fight does not mean that I am going to drop to 170.”

In all honesty, I find it hard to disagree with the man. He was clearly outsized by Boetsch, however “The Barbarian is an enormous 185 pound competitor. Not only that, but Lombard had little problems defending against Boetsch’s offensive wrestling, landed the harder strikes, and even secured a few takedowns of his own.

That doesn’t sound like a man physically incapable of competing at middleweight. In fact, for a fighter with a relatively small frame, Lombard seems capable of handling himself really quite well. I suppose a second fight inside the UFC’s middleweight division may provide a clearer idea of precisely where “Lighting” truly belongs.
