Fans who were excited for this Saturday’s Metamoris 4 match between Chael Sonnen and Andre Galvao might end up being disappointed, as the Nevada State Athletic Commission is reportedly trying to stop Sonnen from competing.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that the NSAC is threatening to fine Sonnen, who is currently under suspension by the athletic commission for his recent multiple drug-test failures, up to $250,000 if he competes this Saturday at the grappling-based event.
In response to this, Sonnen has reportedly hired Las Vegas lawyer Ross Goodman to represent him in the case, as he hopes to be able to compete as planned on Saturday evening. Sonnen’s argument is that a grappling match is not a sanctioned fight and his NSAC suspension should not affect his ability to compete in a jiu-jitsu match.
