Last night during the EliteXC broadcast of Saturday Night Fights on CBS, Tito Ortiz was interviewed and stated that he has been in talks with EliteXC and that a deal could be signed as early as next week.
Ortiz, who has been a free agent now since the beginning of August, has been in negoiations with numerous organizations including the AFL, Affliction, and EliteXC. There have also been rumors that Ortiz was talking again with the UFC but nothing appears to have come out of that.
It was also reported earlier this week by MMARated.com that Ortiz would be on the shelf until the spring of 2009. The former UFC Light Heavyweight champion will be getting surgery this week for an ailing back.
This may or may not effect the deal with EliteXC, if in fact there is something being worked on.
It has been reported since Ortiz hit the open market that he has been difficult to deal with and has been asking for ridiculous amounts of money and now with EliteXC not looking so hot considering their biggest star, Kimbo Slice, was knocked out lastnight in 14 seconds by Seth Petruzelli, Ortiz may find himself back on the phone with Dana White.
That call will most likely go a little something like this:
Tito: "Hey Dana, it's Tito. I think it's time we talk."
