Quinton Jackson Vs. Rashad Evans New Main Event For UFC 98

Sooner rather than later seems to be the theme in the UFC's Light Heavyweight division.

Fresh off the heels of a hard fought decision victory over Keith Jardine lastnight at UFC 96, former Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will get his shot a regaining the crown of the most prominent and talented division in MMA when he challenges Rashad Evans on May 23rd for the title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The bout was made official lastnight.

It will be almost two years from the day he defeated Chuck Liddell to win his first UFC title.

The bout will be the new main event on a card at was suppose to see Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir unify the heavyweight championship. Quick action from the UFC secured a light heavyweight showdown that has the possibility of being one of the best fights of 2009.

This will mark Evans first title defense since winning the belt in December with TKO victory over Forrest Griffin, the man who took the title from Jackson in July 2008.

Jackson is 8-2 in his last 10 fights and following the loss to Griffin would exact some revenge on nemesis Wanderlei Silva in December and then followed that up with the win over Jardine lastnight.

Evans has yet to taste defeat in his MMA career. Going undefeated on his path the light heavyweight title.

It will be a quick turnaround for Jackson, having just eight weeks to prepare for the bout but he will be back in the gym right away as he attempts to regain the title.
