Ever since former Strikeforce founder and promoter Scott Coker was named as Bjorn Rebney’s replacement as the new president of Bellator MMA, rumors have been circulating on the internet that claim Bellator might be sneaking in and scooping up Gina Carano before the UFC has a chance to.
Coker appeared on Ariel Helwani’s “The MMA Hour” on Monday to discuss his future plans for Bellator and spoke about his negotiations with his former female fighting mega-star.
“We’ve had one quick conversation with [her manager] Scott [Karp], and that was it,” said Coker. “And it was just one quick conversation and there was nothing really made of it. I think that Gina wants to fight at 135 [pounds] and as far as Cyborg, we haven’t talked to her because she’s under contract fighting in Invicta, but if she becomes available, then we’ll have a conversation with her.”
As we have noted in the past, Carano has also been in negotiations with Dana White and the UFC for a potential immediate Bantamweight title shot and super-fight against the current face of women’s MMA, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. Coker commented on those rumors as well.
“Well, we don’t have a 135 division, and I can’t say what she’s going to do or what she’s not going to do, because she’s got commitments with her films, and she’s already very busy and she’s got a good acting career,” said Coker. “So it’s really up to her and her schedule.”
