“The American Psycho” Returns As Stephan Bonnar Joins Bellator

Newport Beach, Calif. (August 27, 2014) – The Bellator Light Heavyweight division has seen a new arrival as fan favorite Stephan “The American Psycho” Bonnar (15-8) has agreed to terms on a new Bellator contract.

Fighting in front of millions on Spike TV against the likes of James Irvin, Keith Jardine, Rashad Evans and an iconic showdown with Forrest Griffin, Bonnar has established himself as one of the biggest personalities in the sport during his nearly fifteen year professional career. Last competing in 2012 against Anderson Silva, Bonnar is eager to get back to work, and has a good idea about who his first opponent should be inside the Bellator cage.

“I want everyone to know I’m coming out of retirement because it’s time to free the MMA world of the virus that’s known as Tito Ortiz,” Bonnar said. “We’ve been suffering through his boring fights for too many years, and it’s about time that someone beats it out of him once and for all.”

“Stephan is a guy that has been a huge part of this sport and we are excited have him part of the roster,” Bellator President Scott Coker said. “He was one half of probably the greatest and one of the most important fights in MMA history, and it happened on Spike. When you look at our Light Heavyweight division, with names like Rampage, Tito, King Mo, Emanuel Newton and others, there are a lot of fights Stephan can be involved in. Big fights against big names. After talking to Stephan, I know that’s what he wants, and we want to provide that to our fans.”

Bonnar will also be involved in various components relating to Bellator, including the possibility of on-air commentating and analysis. Bonnar is expected to compete this year live on Spike TV.

…yyyyaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwnnnnnn,,,,,,,,and in other news, the sky is blue…..

    • MattBooneEWN

It’s pretty big news bro. Bellator needs all of the “names” they can get. Hell, Cheick Kongo reportedly helps w/ ratings when he fights and he was nowhere near the level of star in the UFC that Bonnar was. Basically, every little bit helps!

I hope he spanks Titos monkey ass.

    • MattBooneEWN

Yah, that’d be a cool fight. Bellator’s 205 division while most of their top names are yesterday’s news, they still have some juice and name value with the casual MMA fan. If you know pro wrestling, look at the Monday Night Wars. WWE thought Hogan, Savage, etc. was yesterday’s news. They went to the #2 promotion and still had enough juice to jack things up and make WCW #1 over WWE. I obviously don’t think Bellator will overtake UFC, but having name guys like Tito, Rampage, Mo, Bonnar, etc. there for younger, new guys to beat can help create new stars.

I agree man Bellator is definitely up and coming and in a good way.

  • LaParkaXV

Why on Earth is Bonnar a Hall of famer? Did he even hold a title?

    • MattBooneEWN

Because of TUF 1 and that finale. That one fight w/ Forrest put the entire sport on the map as far as growing it outside the small hardcore fan base that we had at the time.

      • LaParkaXV

You put the fight in the HOF not the man or his career.

        • MattBooneEWN

Nah you honor the man who put it on the line, not the match, IMO. I’m against inducting fights or matches into Hall of Fames, but that’s a totally different subject..

          • LaParkaXV

Well im against inducting mediocre MMA careers. Which describes Bonnar to a T.

  • The Man From Jonestown

Man, who are they going to sign next? Tank Abbott? I hear Kimo is still available. If you can’t get him, why not try the Polar Bear?

    • MattBooneEWN

I thought you said Kimbo, not Kimo ….which is funny because there IS talk that Coker might bring back Kimbo and squeeze whatever juice is left outta him lol

  • Ronni Richards

I guess Bellator doesn’t care that he’s been busted twice now for juicing. Lower standards towards lower IQ fans.
