Holding championship belts in multiple weight classes is a tough task no matter the organization. Defending said championship belts is unheard of. That is what Jose “Shorty” Torres will attempt to do later this evening when he fights Gleidson DeJesus in the Main Event at Titan FC 46.
After winning multiple IMMAF Amateur Championship titles, Shorty won his first pro belt when he beat Abdiel Velazquez for the 125lb strap in August of last year. After defending that belt against Pedro Nobre at the start of 2017, Shorty beat Farkhad Sharipov to win the Bantamweight title in May.
I spoke with Torres before he defends his Bantamweight belt and discussed what defending both belts would mean to him, his thoughts on his opponent Gleidson DeJesus, and what it was like being in camp with T.J. Dillashaw, and why he wants to fight the UFC’s Jarred Brooks so badly.
Make sure to tune into Titan FC 46 LIVE on UFC FIGHT Pass tonight at 7:00 pm ET / 4:00 pm PT. Follow along with us here at MMANews.com for all the results at Titan FC and the latest on Shorty’s push for the UFC.
