BJ Penn Retires After Loss To Frankie Edgar At TUF 19 Finale

The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale took place last night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event was headlined by the third and final battle between longtime rivals Frankie Edgar and BJPenn, this time in the featherweight division. After returning to the octagon after a 19 month layoff, Penn was outclassed in virtually every way by Edgar. Penn spent a good portion of the fight on his back without landing much offense at all, with Edgar clearly being the faster, stronger fighter. With Frankie Edgar reigning down elbows on The Prodigy, referee Herb Dean had no choice but to step in and end the fight.

During the post-fight interview, Penn announced that he is retiring. He finishes with a record of 16-10-2. His announcement comes days after UFC President Dana White announced that he would ‘strongly encourage’ Penn to pack it up if he didn’t win at the TUF 19 finale show.
