As was reported last week, Jonathan Goulet has been offered a spot on the UFC 97 card that is scheduled to take place in Montreal at the Bell Center in April but Goulet informed MMANews.com this week that a knee injury suffered in his last bout in December against Mike Swick could force him off the card. “My knee is still sore as I had a rupture of one ligament. I will start conditioning for the first time this week. The doctor says that I might be able to take the fight but it could be risky. I haven’t sparred in a while and will not be able to for at least a month so the timing will be bullshit.”

Goulet though, is optimistic that he will be able to work through the injury and face the planned opponent Tamdan McCrory in front of the hometown crowd in Montreal. “I really want to come back but I don’t want to be too fast. I must be ready for this fight because fighting in Montreal gives me everything I need. It’s a win for sure just because of that.”

Goulet is 3-1 in his last 4 fights but is coming off a TKO loss to Swick while McCrory is also coming off a loss, a first round submission to Dustin Hazelett. Gouelet sees McCrory as a tall fighter that is good on the ground and could be a good match up for him but was at a loss for his nickname, “The Barn Cat”. “I’m not quite sure what that is. I’m looking here on Google.” Goulet says jokingly. After a moment of searching for what exactly a barn cat was, Goulet replied “Ok…That’s…Special..”

Goulet may be able to buy some time as long as the Montreal Canadians find their way into the NHL Playoffs. The proposed date for the show is April 18th but that is playoff season for the NHL and if the Habs happen to make it in, the UFC date may be pushed back.

Nothing is official at this point but it’s clear the UFC plans on going to Montreal in the Spring and Goulet wants to be part of the card.
