Following a successful debut at UFC 83 against Alan Belcher, Jason “Dooms” Day found himself up against one of the top middleweights the UFC has the offer in Michael Bisping a little less than two months later. The successes of the debut would not find their way to the second fight against Bisping but that did not stop the Lethbridge, AB native from getting back on the horse and look to get back in the win column against Jason Lambert at UFC 88 earlier this month.

But an injury would.

Just over two weeks out from the UFC 88 fight, an elbow injury would force Day off of the card.

“It sucked man; there is nothing worse than getting injured that close to a fight and missing out.”

Yesterday, Day had successful surgery performed on the elbow that took him out of action and is now rehabbing the arm.

“The surgery went as planned as far as I know,” Day told MMANews.com. “The doctor said he removed a few loose bodies (bone chips) and cleaned up a lot of scar tissue. I have no movement in my elbow right now but it should come back within the week and I can start using it again. I am just anxious to get back to training and feeling healthy again and I can’t wait to get back in the octagon.”

Who will be waiting for Day inside the Octagon is unknown at this time but he is pretty sure it won’t be Lambert.

“I can’t see them giving me Lambert now, not really sure what’s next, too far off to guess.”

Day will now rest the injured arm for the next week or so until he regains feeling in it, then he will get back to training and back on the road to the UFC. With a 17-7 record he holds wins over Alan Belchar, Jonathan Goulet, and a split decision win (the only decision he has been to in 25 fights) over former UFC title contender David Louiseau that earned him a shot in the UFC.

The recovery time for bone chips is rather short so it could be possible to see Day back in action by the end of the year or early in 2009.
