Tampa, FL October 2007 –World Fighting Championships (WFC) has signed up Marcus Jones, a former defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for his first professional MMA fight. The 6’6″ powerhouse claims that he enjoys competition and was instantly hooked once he started MMA. “You saw me on the field, now come see me in the cage”, says Jones. The event, WFC V: CAGE WARS, will be held Friday, October 26 at Expo Hall in the Florida State Fairgrounds.

WFC CEO Tom Crowther says, “This will be the most explosive MMA event yet!” The lineup includes in impressive array of outstanding talent in addition to Marcus Jones. Eric Reynolds, undefeated at 4-0, returns to the cage for what fans hope to be a continuation of his winning streak with the WFC. Reynolds won his last fight in 43 seconds of the first round with a TKO against former kickboxing rival, Adron Morrison. Also returning from WFC IV is Brandon Sene, a former Marine who trains under Rob Kahn at Gracie Tampa. Sene’s debut at WFC IV proved to be a crowd pleaser with its unexpected twists. WFC plans to bring in big name, world class fighters from Brazil to round out the talent on this phenomenal card. Of course, as with any live event, the fight card is always subject to change.

Making a special appearance at the event, Mario Sperry, a prodigy of the legendary Carlson Gracie, is a multiple Abu Dhabi Submission Grappling World Champion and swept the 1995 to 1998 World Championships of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to become one of the most successful fighters in Sport Jiu Jitsu history. A cofounder of the famous Brazilian Top Team Academy, Mario continues to compete in top level MMA events as well as train new champions. Mario Sperry's instructional DVD's are indisputably the most popular, highly recommended grappling videos ever produced.

The WFC plans to make the weigh-in free and open to the public. This is an opportunity to watch what the fighters need to go through to qualify for the event with the Florida State Boxing Commission and make weight. Autographs will be available. The location is currently under negotiation, but WFC expects it to be at either the Seminole Hard Rock Caf or at Channelside. Watch the WFC website at www.mmawfc.com for details.
