Iron Shin Diaries: Entry #2 – IFL TRYOUTS

Iron Shin Diaries: Entry #2 IFL TRYOUTS

10/22/2007

Sid Needelman Reporting…

It is one week until the International Fight League holds its tryouts outside of Chicago, Illinois.

Jeff “Ironshin” Strickland is set to give all that he has to coaches Pat Miletich and Maurice Smith. In his preparations he has enlisted the help of T’s K.O. Fight Club owner and coach Trevor Whittman, Duane “Bang” Ludwig, Shane Corwin who is the number one contender for the Ring of Fire Heavyweight title, and the many tough up-and-comers at T’s K.O. Fight Club in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, a suburb of Denver.

Jeff has competed in Muay Thai as heavy as three hundred fifteen pounds, but at just over six feet tall, he decided to cut to a more natural weight of two hundred five pounds.

On Thursday of last week Jeff made his fight weight of 205, just to prove to himself that he could do it. A strict diet, and 20 — 30 minute cardio sessions every three or so hours, helped. “I can make 185,” Jeff said, “”but 205 is a more natural weight.” “I’m a pretty big 205er!” He said while laughing.

T’s K.O. Fight Club is a forty five minute drive for Jeff, but he makes the trek at least three times a week. “I couldn’t ask for better training partners or coaches. There are so many champions at T’s… How can you not get better?” Duane Ludwig, Nate Marquardt to name just two. “I have never had EVERY person that I train with give me so much trouble!” Jeff says. “Even the young guys are well trained, technical, and tough as hell!”

The training will not let up this week. “I have to make the draft!” Jeff says. “This is my big chance, and I cannot fail!” The International Fight League is giving younger and obscure fighters the chance to make a living doing what they love.

This week Jeff received a sponsorship from Bloody Knuckles Fight Gear. “This gear is sick!” he said. Very excited about the quality of the shorts, rash guards, and assorted gear that they had sent him. Jeff “Ironshin” Strickland made sure this was included, a big thank you to Bloody Knuckles Fight Gear! And you can also check out Art Remirez who will be fighting at Total Combat 24 in Ocean Side, California on Sunday November 4th.

Jeff is still looking for sponsors. He needs help with travel and lodging expenses. Any and all help is appreciated. For more information, or to contact Jeff, you can email him at [email protected].
