NJ BOXING CZAR KO'D FROM JOB
By GEORGE WILLIS

November 16, 2007 — Larry Hazzard's firing late Wednesday as boxing commissioner of the New Jersey's Athletic Control Board left the boxing and mixed martial arts community wondering why one of the most respected regulators no longer had his job.

“Obviously, this administration doesn't want anybody complaining,” Hazzard said yesterday. “The mistake I made was to complain and ask for help. I guess they didn't appreciate it.”

Hazzard, who was appointed commissioner in 1985 by then-Gov. Tom Kean, was fired by current Attorney General Anne Milgram, whose office said simply: “The Attorney General decided she wanted to make a change at the commission.”

Spokesman David Wald offered no other reason for the dismissal. Hazzard was replaced by Deputy Commissioner Sylvester Cuyler, who was named acting commissioner.
