From an article on MMAMania.com:
They’re still trying to call me the heavyweight champion. I resigned and relinquished the title. Nogueira’s in my opinion the champion now in the UFC…I need to be free and clear of that before I can pursue this fight somewhere else with Fedor (Emelianenko). I’d love for the UFC to step up and make the fight happen. It has the potential to be the biggest mixed martial arts fight to date…It has the potential to do 700,000+ pay-per-view buys which is a helluva lotta money. I think 6-10 [million should be the salary] for each of us and they’re still gonna make a boatload of money on top of that.
In theory this may sound reasonable but the fact that no one has made even near that much amount of money for an MMA fight yet should tell you that the chances of this happening are slim to none.
If Couture is looking for that kind of pay day he needs to just retire now and get it over with because the beating he is liable to take at the hands of Fedor probably isn't worth the hassle of putting this fight together. Or is it?
Randy is losing a lot of stock amongst the hardcore MMA community and although it would be nice to see fighters making this kind of bread, anyone with even a little MMA buisness knowledge knows this isn't going to happen.
