Shields: Fight With Rigg Not Signed But Would Be Good Fight

Rumors are circulating the internet that a fight been top welterweight Jake Shields and former UFC welterweight title contender Joe Riggs is on the table for the Strikeforce card planned for April 11th in San Jose, CA and MMANews.com was able to catch up with Jake Shields lastnight to get his thoughts on the fight.

“Well, nothing is signed right now but it is a good possibility that it is going to happen.” Shields told us via text message. “If it does go through I think it will be a good exciting fight.”

Shields (22-4-1), who was the EliteXC Welterweight Champion before the company crumbled following there last show in October, just wants to put the past behind him and move forward on his path to the top. The top ranked welterweight is also riding an eleven fight win streak.

Riggs (29-10) is coming off a TKO win over Luke Stewart in November at the last Strikeforce event of 2008. He will look to make a bang in the welterweight division since making his return to the weight class after a stint at middleweight.

If this bout does get signed and added to the card it joins other bouts such as main event Frank Shamrock vs Nick Diaz.
