WEC Adds Flyweight Division, Drops Welterweight Division

World Extreme Cagefighting made some long time rumors official today with the announcement of the addition of a flyweight division to the company.

This comes hot off the heals of the dropping of the WEC welterweight division and the move of it's champion, Carlo Condit, to the UFC. Condit makes his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 18 against Martin Kampmann.

“With the addition of the flyweight division, the WEC has cemented its status as the home of the greatest lighter weight fighters in the world,” WEC Vice President of Operations and Production Peter Dropick today stated in a press release. “We are excited to launch the 125-pound championship division, and look forward to giving our fans the best and most action-packed flyweight fights in the sport.”
