MMAJunkie.com confirms the fight wit Belchar:
When Alan Belcher (14-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) asked to face Denis Kang at UFC 93, many MMA observers felt he might be biting off a little more than he could chew.
But when “The Talent” tapped Kang in the second round, those same observers were forced to take notice.
Now the 24-year-old will take another step up as the rumored bout with Yoshiro Akiyama (12-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) first reported by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has become a reality for UFC 100.
“At first [the UFC] wanted me to fight (Alessio) Sakara,” Belcher said. “I said, 'Yeah.' (My manager) Duke (Roufus) thought that the fight with Akiyama would be better for me.
“That's what you have a manager for, because as a real fighter, you're game to fight anybody. That's how I am. I just want to get in there and fight anybody.”
With the change from relative journeyman Sakara to bona fide star Akiyama, Belcher believes he's creating a better opportunity for himself.
“Obviously, I understand that it makes more sense for me to fight somebody like Akiyama,” Belcher said. “It kind of puts me up the ladder a little bit more. Either way, it doesn't matter just as long as I get back in there.
