Glendale, AZ. – April 17, 2009 – MMA LAB fighter Ben “Smooth” Henderson (9-1, 2-0 WEC) defeated Shane Roller (5-2, 2-1 WEC) at WEC 40 on April 5th in Chicago, IL securing his ninth straight win. Both Lightweight fighters were undefeated in the WEC stepping into the cage for the main card bout. Henderson did what Roller’s prior two opponents could not, he fought his way out of a nasty guillotine and flattened Roller with a brutal series of punches, defeating Roller by TKO, 1 min 41 seconds in the first round.
Benson Henderson had this to say, “My ultimate goal is to be the best pound for pound fighter out there. Fighting for the WEC is a great opportunity. I am fortunate to be backed by such a credible fight organization. The WEC brings a lot to the table, from the quality of fighters to the level of exposure. I’m new to the game and still a long way off from where I want to be, but I’m steadily moving toward my goal with each victory.”
Henderson, a two time all-American wrestler from Dana College, trains out of the MMA LAB in Glendale, Arizona with jiu-jitsu instructor and head MMA coach John Crouch. Henderson has his sites set on being seen as the best pound for pound fighter in the world, and with an impressive nine fight win streak he is well on his way.
