It's been almost three years since Alistair Overeem won the Strikeforce Heavyweight title and since then he hasn't defended it once. Now on May 15th, Overeem will defend the crown against Brett Rogers.
The announcement hasn't yet been made official by Strikeforce but MMANews.com has confirmed the match up with sources close to the situation.
Rogers last fought in November of 2009, losing for the first time in his career via a first round knockout against Fedor Emelianenko. He holds a 10-1 record with his most notable win coming over Andrei Arlovski.
Overeem had been expected to fight Fedor Emelianenko when he first defended the strap but now will face Rogers. He last fought MMA on NYE 2009, knocking Kazuyuki Fujita out with a knee on the K-1 Dynamite card.
