Former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez is in Japan right now still hoping to get a fight on the DREAM 15 card this weekend after his scheduled bout against Alistair Overeem fell through. While it's still too early to tell, DREAM may have a situation now that fits Rodriguez's circumstances perfectly.
According to the latest reports, former UFC light heavyweight contender Jake O'Brien, who was scheduled to face Gegard Mousasi in the opening bout of a four-man 205 pound Grand Prix, failed to make the required weight. This would leave an opening for Rodriguez to either fight Mousasi if he could make 205 pounds on very short notice, or fight O'Brien at heavyweight, depending on DREAM's preferences. Rodriguez recently posted a tweet on his official Twitter page updating his fans on exactly that: “Now they want me to fight Gerad M at 205!!!”
No new information has surfaced since the tweet, so as of this article that is where things stand.
You can get more details on the crazy history of Rodriguez-Overeem, and Rodriguez's situation with DREAM in general this weekend by reading a new interview Rodriguez gave the Sherdog.com website earlier today.
