Strikeforce: King Mo Defense & Vacant MW Title Fight On 8/21; Tourney

You can officially pencil in Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Tim Kennedy for the vacant Strikeforce middleweight title at the August 21 event scheduled for the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

The Souza-Kennedy vacant title fight will be one of two title fights during the 8/21 card, as King Mo Lawal will defend his Strikeforce light heavyweight title for the first time against Rafael Feijao in the main event.

Many may be wondering about the much talked about Strikeforce middleweight tournament and where it stands now that Jacare-Kennedy has been announced as a fight to crown a champion in the middleweight division. Quite simply put, the tourney is still a go, only the prize for winning the tournament will be a shot at the title against whomever comes out on top in the Jacare-Kennedy vacant title bout.

Also announced for the 8/21 Strikeforce event is K.J. Noons vs. Jorge Gurgel in a very interesting lightweight match-up, as well as heavyweight contender Bobby Lashley's MMA fighting return following a short hiatus due to injury. Lashley's opponent for the event in Houston has not yet been announced. As soon as it is, we'll be sure to update you here on the site.

All of this and more will be officially announced to the public this coming Tuesday, July 13 at a big Strikeforce media conference at the 1994 Championship Room at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, the site the actual event will be held on 8/21. Scheduled for the media conference on Tuesday are Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, as well as King Mo, Bobby Lashley, Tim Kennedy and K.J. Noons.

Ticket pre-sales will be available from Tuesday, July 13 — Thursday, July 15. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 16.
