According to a report on MMAWeekly.com, UFC middleweight contender Vitor Belfort has been hit with the injury bug yet again, and is pulling out of his scheduled UFC title eliminator bout against Yushin Okami in the main event of UFC 122 on November 13.
The bout, which was set to determine the next title contender for the UFC middleweight belt (after Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II, which is a whole other story right now) has not yet been confirmed by UFC officials as a no-go, but the MMAWeekly report already claims to have information about a replacement opponent.
The report claims Nate “The Great” Marquardt, fresh off of his first-round TKO victory over Rousimar Palhares at last week's UFC Fight Night 22 event, has already been signed to fill in for former UFC light heavyweight champion Belfort, (whose injury has yet to be confirmed or specified) as one-half of the new UFC 122 main event.
If all of the aforementioned claims are in fact true, the question remains as to whether or not the title eliminator stipulation will be in tact for a Marquardt vs. Okami bout. As soon as these questions and more can be answered, MMANEWS.COM will return with a follow-up to this story.
