Shields Wants Finish But Knows It Will Be Tough Against GSP

Former EliteXC and Strikeforce Champion Jake Shields will finally get his shot at the UFC Welterweight Title on April 30th after years of fighting outside the promotion.

Shields' crisp Jiu-Jitsu and relentless wrestling have him riding a fifteen fight win streak that hasn't seen him lose a fight since December of 2004.

When he takes on Georges St. Pierre in Toronto at UFC 129, he knows he'll be in tough with the reigning welterweight kingpin but is confident he has what it takes to win the bout despite the mixed bag of tricks GSP brings to the table:

“If (the fight) goes how I'd want it to go, I'd go out there and tap (Georges St. Pierre) out in a minute. But realistic it's probably going to be a war; he's going to be well prepared for everything. I see it going at least a few rounds all back and forth but I see myself finishing him. Who knows, it could be early but I'm going to be attacking, attacking, looking to put him away. (The biggest challenge) is probably his wrestling. He's a strong wrestler in his takedowns and his defense.”

“He's hard to game plan against. He's got so many variables; you don't know how he's going to fight. So I have to bring in the same mix of tricks. Be switching things up, attacking him in different ways and I'm going to be ready for whatever he has to bring at me.”
