When Tito Ortiz initially declined a proposed bout with Rashad Evans at UFC 133, the UFC's next choice for the fight was Lyoto Machida.
The UFC got in contact with Machida's reps but due to his high cash demand the UFC instead went back to the drawing board. Machida had been, according to UFC President Dana White, asking for “Anderson Silva Money” to take the fight.
Both Chris Leben and Chael Sonnen offered to take the fight according to White but due to them being middleweights, White thanked them for their offer and instead sealed a deal to bring Tito Ortiz in to face Rashad in a rematch of their UFC 73 fight.
