Daniel Cormier Breaks Hand, Out At Least Six Weeks

A broken hand won't cause a disruption to the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix as Daniel Cormier revealed today that he will still be able to compete in the finals, which are expected to take place in the first quarter of 2012.

“Just got done seeing Dr.” Cormier tweeted “Hand is broken will be on the shelf 4 a while. Still looking forward to finishing tourney. Thx 4 support. DC”

Cormier broke his hand in the first round of his semi final match up with Antonio Silva this past weekend. He defeated the Brazilian via first round TKO to advance to the finals of the GP against Josh Barnett.

Cormier's management also confirmed that the rising heavyweight star will be out only 6-8 weeks before resuming training. Strikeforce's contract with Showtime expires in February which should give plenty of time for Cormier to complete a full camp.

Assuming Strikeforce does not renew the deal with Showtime, the card will likely take place in January or February.
