Gegard Mousasi (31-3-2) will make his return to the Strikeforce cage on December 17th after a successful trip to Japan, where the dangerous Red Devil product disposed of Hiroshi Izumi for the DREAM promotion just two months ago.
Waiting to welcome him back will be emerging prospect, Ovince St. Preux (11-4). St. Preux, who fights out of Knoxville, Tennessee is 5-0 for the promotion, and stands to gain significant notoriety should he topple the fan favorite Mousasi. Having pieced together an eight fight win streak, St. Preux certainly appears to be a viable challenger.
Mousasi is 3-1-1 over the course of his last five outings, and a win over St. Preux will once again catapult him into the title mix, especially as contenders thin out while the UFC slowly exports Strikeforce talent.
With Dan Henderson headed back to the UFC, a light heavyweight title collision between Mousasi and Rafael Cavalcante could potentially materialize should Gegard topple St. Preux. Should Ovince emerge victorious, a whole new series of potential matchups make plenty of sense, and a chance at the title certainly isn
