Eddie Alvarez Expected To Be Bellator Main Event

When Tito Ortiz was forced out of his bout against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at the first ever Bellator PPV, it came as no surprise to Eddie Alvarez who was pegged for a co-main event slot in his Bellator Lightweight title fight against Michael Chandler.

In fact, Alvarez expected to end up the main event all along:

“What did I think? ‘I told you so.’ That’s what I thought. You can ask everyone at Bellator. That’s what I thought in my own head. I told them all. I said, ‘Me and Mike are going to be the main event.’ As soon as they said we’re co-main event to Tito and ‘Rampage,’ I told them we’d be the main event. I guaranteed them that. I knew in my head that Tito or ‘Rampage,’ one of them would not make it through their training camp. These are guys who have been in this sport so long. I’ve been in this sport long, and I have dings and I’m lucky to make it through a training camp. Tito’s been plagued with injuries and it didn’t take a genius to see that one coming.”
