VIDEO: Conor McGregor: “The Human Skull Cannot Take The Power That I Have”

The UFC web team caught up with Conor McGregor backstage at UFC 179 this past weekend and as always, “The Notorious” one was quick to drop a few verbal gems.

When talking to UFC reporter Megan Olivi before the show, McGregor spoke about his decision to take a fight while waiting for his shot at the UFC Featherweight Championship, as he is scheduled to fight Dennis Siver on January 18th in Boston, Massachusetts.

McGregor said that fighting is an “addiction” for him and noted, “while I wait for my title shot, I’ll eliminate as many contenders as possible. So this is just one more competitor.”

When discussing the fact that he’s going to be returning to Boston, where he received a heroes welcome for his fight with Max Holloway back in April of 2013, McGregor said, “It was probably the first time that I can got ‘star’ kind of feel. Sweden was my debut, but in Boston they kind of threw out the red carpet for me. It was a special feeling.”

When Olivi caught up with the Irish superstar after the UFC 179 event, he was quick to compliment both Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes on a “terrific contest,” but just as quick, reminded them that he’s a different animal.

“My confidence remains sky-high,” said McGregor after the fight. “They cannot stand there and trade like that with me. It’s that simple. My shots break the guard. The human skull cannot take the power that I have.”

In scoring the fight himself, McGregor admitted that there were times where he thought Aldo was going to win, times he thought Mendes might win and actually times he thought it could be ruled a draw, which he said he knew “would definitely not be good” for him.

“If Chad takes a decision, I don’t think it’s good for me either,” said McGregor. “So while watching it, I was rooting for Jose.”

While McGregor added that watching the Aldo-Mendes fight was a “crazy mix of emotions for him,” he said his confidence is still sky-high, pointing out that he “hits differently than these people.”

As noted, McGregor returns to action against Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, January 18, 2015, airing live on FOX Sports 1.
