Following the withdrawal of UFC Bantamweight contender Raphael Assuncao from the UFC Fight Night 62 event in Brazil, Urijah Faber has been pulled from the card altogether.
It was reported on Monday that Assuncao pulled out of the show due to injury, which left Faber without an opponent for the main event of the show. It was originally believed that a new opponent would be given to Faber to create a new main event, however it was announced today that “The California Kid” is off the show completely.
As a result of the Faber-Assuncao cancellation, the originally planned co-main event of the show between top-ten ranked UFC Welterweight contender Demian Maia and undefeated prospect Ryan LaFlare will be bumped up to the headline spot on the card.
UFC Fight Night 62 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 21st at the Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
