Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. has joined UFC President Dana White and several others in a club of people who feel that UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is comparable to a female version of Mike Tyson.
Jones Jr. appeared on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” at MMAFighting.com to talk about the subject.
“I think she is that devastating,” said Jones Jr. “Anybody who can do something like that hand-to-hand combat wise, I’m definitely a fan of. I think that’s a proper name, a proper thing to refer her to — a proper reference for her.”
Rousey has finished all of her opponents, outside of Miesha Tate in their second fight, within the first round, yet fans — including Jones Jr. — don’t feel ripped off when her bouts last only a minute or so.
“Yes, she is just like Mike Tyson and yes I would pay every time to watch her destroy somebody, I don’t care if it’s 10 seconds,” said Jones Jr. “But because I know what she’s coming to do, I’m gonna pay to watch her, because I’m gonna be entertained for them 10 seconds that she’s in there. Which is the same reason I’d watch Roy Jones Jr. and the same reason I’d always watch Mike Tyson.”
