Chael Sonnen Clarifies Comments About Roddy Piper Handing Over “Piper’s Pit” To Him

After making the claim that he was taking over late WWE Hall Of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s infamous “Piper’s Pit” segment, former UFC title contender Chael Sonnen is now back to clarify his original statements.

Raymond Hernandez, the producer of the Piper’s Pit podcast at, where Sonnen also hosts a show, reached out to to refute Sonnen’s claim, stating, “Roddy would have never handed off Piper’s Pit. And if he were to do so, it wouldn’t be to an MMA fighter, it would have been to a pro-wrestler.”

On his own podcast, called “You’re Welcome with Chael Sonnen,” which drops weekly at, Sonnen attempted to clarify his original comments.

“I used the term, ‘Piper’s Pit’, because that was the greatest interview segment that wrestling [has] had,” Sonnen said. “All I meant was, I was going to do interviews in Global Force Wrestling.”

Sonnen also mentioned during the show that he attended Piper’s funeral to show support for Piper’s son, Colt Toombs, who is an aspiring MMA fighter who has been training in Sonnen’s home state of Oregon.

“I trained with him, we threw punches at each other, you know, you become pretty close through that, and that was really my tie to the family, was through Colt more than anything else,” Sonnen said.
