Newly-crowned UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez had nothing but praise and respect for Rafael dos Anjos after finishing him Thursday night at UFC Fight Night 90.
Alvarez, who became the first fighter to wear both UFC and Bellator gold with the first round victory, stated that the way the bout ended could have very easily been the other way around.
“This guy (dos Anjos) is the best in the division,” he said during the post-fight press conference. “To be able to come out with a win over him, and before him was (Anthony) Pettis and before him was Gilbert (Melendez)….these are the best guys in the division.”
When pushed about who he might want to face next, Alvarez looked outside his weight class for what he described as a “gimmie fight.”
McGregor was scheduled to meet dos Anjos earlier this year before the Brazilian suffered an injury.
