Tyron Woodley Explains What Being UFC Champion Means To Him

Tyron Woodley became the latest FOX Sports analyst to claim UFC gold when he knocked out Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 this past weekend to become welterweight champion.

For Woodley, the victory meant even more than just the gold belt that came with it.

“It’s hard work on all levels. I worked at FOX Sports. I’m not stopping until I get a badge from FOX to come work and be one of the top analysts,” he said. “And I got it. But we had to go from the badge to the belt and fighting Robbie Lawler.”

As for not wanting to face Stephen Thompson, the No. 1 ranked challenger, “The Chosen One” also explained that.

“He said he wanted the Robbie fight. He said that’s the better fight. And he thought Robbie was going to win,” Woodley said. “If I’m talking to Georges St-Pierre and he’s interested in fighting me, that’s the fight I want. I’m not going to fight Stephen.”
