After UFC On FOX 26 KO, Josh Emmett Willing to Grant Ricardo Lamas Rematch

Josh Emmett knows he made a mistake not making weight for his UFC on FOX 26 co-main event with Ricardo Lamas.

Emmett, who scored a stunning first round knockout of the former featherweight title contender, offered Lamas a rematch.

“Of course. He did this for me. He didn’t have to take this fight,” Emmett said (thanks to MMAjunkie for the quotes). “He is one of the best guys in the world. He could have sat back and waited for the winner of (Frankie) Edgar vs. (Max) Holloway and then get a title shot, or fight (Brian) Ortega, and the winner of that get a title fight.”

Emmett (13-1) came in heavy for the contest, but Lamas still agreed to fight. He was a replacement for former UFC champion Jose Aldo, who bowed out of a rematch with Lamas to challenge Holloway earlier this month for the title.

“I’m truly grateful for him accepting the fight,” Emmett said, “as well as with me missing the weight.”

He said the issue with making weight was due to the short notice of the fight, adding “I didn’t have enough time to water load. I just messed up, but I take credit for it and it won’t happen again.”
