Patricio Freire Wants To Unify UFC & Bellator Featherweight Titles

Patricio Freire has some high expectations for his Bellator MMA featherweight title reign. Freire won the 145-pound strap back in April of 2017. He submitted Daniel Straus at Bellator 178 in Uncasville, Connecticut. Freire has successfully defended the featherweight title twice since. His first came against Daniel Weichel at Bellator 203 in Rome, Italy this past July in a hard-fought split decision.

And most recently, at Bellator 209 in Israel earlier this month, Freire defeated Emmanuel Sanchez via unanimous decision. During his reign, Freire has made it no secret that he wants to test himself against the best in the world. That includes fighters from other promotions as well. He is on record of saying he’d like to face former UFC featherweight king Jose Aldo.

However, Freire now seems to have his sights set on the UFC featherweight title. Speaking to Bloody Elbow recently, Freire said he’d like to unify the Bellator and UFC featherweight titles:

“I would like to fight the UFC champion and unify the belts,” Patricio said. “Aside from that, any featherweights people think are better than me, I hope Bellator can bring me some of those for 2019.”

What do you think about Freire’s aspirations to unify the Bellator and UFC featherweight belts?
