Kamaru Usman Would Love to Beat up Colby Covington

Kamaru Usman, the number five ranked welterweight earned a dominant victory over the number three ranked Rafael Dos Anjos at the Ultimate Fighter Season 28 finale Friday night. During his post-fight interview on UFC on Fox, he let it be known that he believes the win over Dos Anjos puts him in line for a title shot.

Usman said he would love to be the one to “dethrone“ Tyron Woodley as he has solidified himself as the current welterweight champion. However, he believes both fans and some of his peers in the UFC, and some analysts at UFC on Fox would love to see him beat up Colby Covington.

“It’s gonna be fun as hell for me to beat the sh*t out of Colby Covington.” –Kamaru Usman

He said he believes he matches up well against “those guys” referring to both Woodley and Covington fighting for the title, and getting an immediate shot does not seem to be something out of the question. In a report from MMA Junkie, Dana White told reporters at a post-fight scrum that he would not mind seeing Usman face Woodley after his performance against Dos Anjos.

Usman has had his sights on Woodley before, teasing the champ on social media after earning a victory over Demian Maia at UFC Fight Night 129 in a fashion that was more entertaining than Woodley’s according to Usman’s social media post after that victory where he added, “I’m coming for that strap.”

Usman was referring to Woodley’s win over Maia at UFC 214 which was a unanimous decision victory but highly criticized for not being fun to watch. Woodley faces Covington at UFC 233 at the Honda Center in Anaheim California on January 26 and Usman will likely be waiting for the victor.
